Katie and the Cupcake Cure

I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book. It is well written, an interesting plot, and has a nice balance between character development and story. It's not the most exciting book ever, but if you're looking for a juvenile fiction about the life experiences of a middle school girl, this is an excellent option.
 
 

Of Mice and Magic

While I REALLY enjoyed the first book in this series, I can't say as much about the second. It was decent, but, in my opinion, not as good as the first. I suppose some of that may be due to the fact that I've never read the fairy tale that this book was based upon. I did enjoy reading it. There's a lot of humor, decent writing, and an interesting plot. I just didn't enjoy it as much as the first.
 
 

Marley & Me Book

This was a heart-warming, fast read. I had already seen the movie, but the book adds so much color and life to Marley. Great Read!
 
 

The Boy Who Crashed to Earth

I read my first graphic novel a few months ago and have been trying to read more, just to broaden my literary horizons. This particular one was better than most of what I've read, but I still only gave it three stars because, in my (admittedly limited) experience, the average juvenile graphic novel leaves something to be desired. The whole thing would be best described as "good enough". The quality of writing, the illustrations, the level of humor, etc... It wasn't the best book I ever read, but it was far from the worst. I would recommend it for readers interested in a superhero themed graphic novel, but not to anyone who gravitates towards books outside that specific area.
 
 

Super Fly

This book is tolerable, but it's not particularly remarkable. It is a good choice for kids who enjoy a superhero themed story, but I wouldn't recommend it to any other audience. There's not really much to be said about it. It's not bad, but it's not particularly good either. The quality of writing is ok, as is the plot and character development. It's an easy/light read, but it's not exactly a "page turner". I've read books that it was a struggle to finish, and this wasn't that. It really is just remarkably average.
 
 

Misty of Chincoteague

This is a book that was one of my favorites as a child. I decided to re-read it recently and it did not disappoint. It's definitely still in my top 5 favorite children's books. I'm going to re-read the rest of the series too. It's THAT good. The quality of writing is excellent, and the plot twist near the end is fabulous (even when you're re-reading it). I would recommend it to horse lovers, animal lovers, and anybody who just wants to try out a new realistic juvenile fiction series.
 
 

The Adventures of Captain Underpants
by Dav Pilkey

This is one of those stories that is great for a very particular age group. I gave it three stars because the writing isn't terrible, and there's a few areas that are humorous for all ages, but most of the book isn't. I would definitely recommend it to elementary age kids who love a good fart joke. That said, it's definitely not one of those books that EVERYONE will love. By the end I was thinking, "Ok, this really seems like it was written by an elementary aged boy." Turns out, the general idea was! (I did enjoy the background information at the end of the book where I learned that tidbit.)
 
 

Alice in Wonderland

This is definitely one of the better children's books I've read. I am left in awe at the extraordinary imagination of the author. The story is full of humor and fantastic characters. I especially enjoyed the frequent use of homonyms to bring extra humor into the story. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
 
 

Judy Moody

This is a cute story about a girl who really doesn't want to like her new third grade class or the boy who sits next to her. Despite that, she learns to appreciate both, while learning some things about herself along the way. It's above average for a children's book, with a pinch of humor and a lot of character development. It's definitely worth reading if you are looking for a character driven realistic fiction.

Overall this was a pretty good book, but it took SO long for me to get into. All the physics terminology made me sort of lose track of what was going on.
